Paving Stone

A 16-cobble recycled paver for paths, driveways and parking

Each element carries 16 molded cobbles, so a traditional-looking cobbled surface goes down 2.69 ft² at a time. Rated to 5.6 tons per ft² (Class SLW 60 per DIN 1072) and cut with ordinary tools to follow corners and curves.

Advantages and trade-offs

Every surface is a compromise. Here is where Paving Stone performs, and where another product in the range is the better call.

Advantages

  • Cobbled look, a fraction of the labor

Laying 16 cobbles at once removes the slowest part of a traditional setts installation.

  • Real load capacity

5.6 tons per ft² covers domestic driveways, garage entrances and parking spaces.

  • Won't spall or crack like concrete

The recycled polymer flexes slightly and does not suffer frost spalling or efflorescence.

  • Cuts cleanly on site

Corners, curves and service covers are worked with standard tools.

Considerations & limitations

  • Strict laying instructions

hanit states that non-observance of the laying instructions voids the warranty — the ⅛” joint gaps and loose-laying step are not optional.

  • Expect color and dimensional variation

Differences in color and surface structure are normal, and dimensions can vary ±3% due to the material.

  • Storage rules

Uninstalled elements must be stored on level ground out of direct sunlight to avoid warping — worth planning for on a Texas job site.

  • Deeper excavation than the slabs

Driveways need 8–12” of excavation, and 20” where heavy traffic is expected.

  2. 02Frost protection and baseFor vehicle areas, 8–12” of 0/32 mm angular material compacted in 4” layers, then a 4” base course of 0/18 mm aggregate.
  3. 03Geotextile and beddingNon-woven needle-punched geotextile with 6” overlaps, then a 2” grit bedding layer screeded smooth.
  4. 04Lay looseStart at the lowest corner using string lines and position elements loosely with the joining pieces to keep the ⅛” expansion joints.
  5. 05Compact and jointOne pass with a neoprene-faced vibrating plate, then sweep bedding grit into the joints.
  6. 06EdgeFinish with a border such as hanit curb stones, leaving a ⅜–¾” expansion joint.
