Ground reinforcement
Heavy Duty Ground Grid
Permeable reinforcement built for trucks, fire lanes and constant traffic
HDGG is the heaviest grid in the hanit range: a deep-cell, 100% recycled plastic grid that spreads truck and trailer loads across a free-draining base. Fill it with gravel for an all-weather working surface, or with topsoil for a green surface that still carries vehicles.

Key facts
- Deepest cell profile in the range for heavy, repeated axle loads
- Free-draining: rainwater infiltrates instead of running off
- Rot-free, frost and UV resistant — no sealing or repainting
- Interlocking units install fast with hand tools
- 100% recycled plastic, 100% recyclable at end of life

Advantages and trade-offs
Every surface is a compromise. Here is where Heavy Duty Ground Grid performs, and where another product in the range is the better call.
Advantages
Handles the loads concrete is usually specified for
The 3⅛” cell depth and thick rib walls let HDGG carry loaded trucks, trailers and emergency vehicles when installed over a correctly designed free-draining base.
Permeable by design
Water passes through the fill and into the sub-base rather than sheeting off, which helps with detention requirements and reduces erosion at entrances and gates.
Fast to install and easy to extend
Units interlock and can be cut with a standard saw. Areas can be enlarged, lifted or re-laid later without demolition.
Low lifetime cost
No cracking, sealing or resurfacing cycle. Maintenance is limited to topping up fill material.
Considerations & limitations
The base does the work
HDGG spreads load; it does not replace a sub-base. Soft or clay subgrades need a properly compacted free-draining base and geotextile, which adds excavation cost.
Not a finished hard surface
The surface is gravel or grass, not a smooth slab. It is not the right choice where wheelchairs, hand trucks or high heels need a continuous flat finish — Paving Stone or Eco Slab suit those areas better.
Grass fill needs establishment time
A green finish needs seeding, irrigation and a few weeks of light use before it takes traffic well.
Heavier per unit
At 19.84 lbs each, large jobs benefit from mechanical handling at the pallet.

Typical applications
- Fire lanes and emergency access routes
- Truck yards, loading and turning areas
- RV, trailer and overflow parking
- Ranch and utility access roads
- Road shoulder and verge reinforcement
- Equipment laydown and storage yards
Installation
- 01Excavate and gradeStrip topsoil and grade to the required depth for the expected load and subgrade strength.
- 02Sub-baseInstall and compact a free-draining engineered base. Use a geotextile separation layer over soft or clay subgrades.
- 03Bedding layerScreed a leveling course of sharp sand or grit and check falls.
- 04Lay and interlockStart from an edge restraint, work in a staggered bond and interlock each unit. Cut units with a circular saw where needed.
- 05Fill and finishFill cells with angular gravel or a topsoil root-zone, then top off and compact.
